The Book of Genesis of the Bible or Torah, known as the book of “Beginnings” or origins as it can also be referred to. Is a narrative by the author of what is considered to be “the creation story”. So whether or not you believe it to be a literal testimony or an allegory of sequential acts, that is to say epochs of time or era’s versus the 6 day – 24 hour periods we know today, is not something I will try to persuade you with words at this time one way or the other. I for one believe that what is true about The Bible, God’s Holy word is that He reveals mysteries in His word that is to be taken at face value as well as investigated and researched to find hidden treasures of deeper truth beneath the surface at varying levels. His Word is both prophetic and simplistic, that is to say it is both natural and spiritual, temporal and eternal. He reveals the end from the beginning as it is stated in Isaiah 46:10. I for one enjoy the discovery, the fascination, and the intrigue regarding eschatological (end time) topics as well as the core values of salvation and redemption through His promised Messiah, and how to live a humble righteous and just life. Who we are and what it means “for such a time as this”. I would like to look at a marvelous mystery revealed in the “Beginning” and relate to this present day. Something to challenge and encourage those that are called by His Great NAME. Although we find ourselves in perilous times and most assuredly have a potential and a promise to see them worsen as the days grow darker.
There was Darkness and then there was Light, the evening and the morning, the first day. Genesis 1
Darkness always precedes light in The Lord Gods strategy. Shall we embark on a journey, a reflection called “A Mirrored Image“.
1 Corinthians 13:12 “For now we see in a mirror, dimly…” (NKJV) A mirror is an object that reflects back “The Image” that is cast upon it. The clarity of the glass of the mirror accounts for the vagueness or precise reflection of the original.
In the Beginning (Genesis) of the Bible there is this account. Genesis 1:16 God made two great lights- the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. Now in a natural and physical interpretation of this text we can assign these great lights as the sun, and the moon. And I would agree with this assessment on this level. Let’s look at some properties briefly, as looking at them in their natural design.
The greater light – the sun – to govern or rule the light or we would say the day. It is self sufficient in it’s ability to give off its own illumination. As far as we can tell it is the same each day and has been for as long as man has existed and walked under its light and warmth.
The lesser light – the moon – to govern over the night or we could say the darkness. It is not self sufficient and has zero illuminable properties, it produces no light of its own.
The sun is basically a giant thermo-nuclear sphere of energy. The moon is basically a sphere of DUST!
Now I would like us to look at this same passage of scripture through a more spiritual lens a mystery beneath the surface, a treasure hidden in plain sight and see if its eternal application can edify and challenge us. Let’s go back to Genesis just a little beyond this text regarding the two great lights.
Genesis 1:27 So God created man (humankind) in his own Image, in the Image of God he created him. 2:7 The LORD God formed the man out of the DUST of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (Ruach-Spirit) and the man became a living being.
So Our creator The LORD God created us from dust, yet in His image, his likeness. He cast the mold from His majesty and power and glory and made us out of simple clay, dirt, the dust.
“He remembers we are but DUST” Psalms 103:14
Often times the moon is hidden from the full view of the reflective glory of the sun, it veils itself, the outline of its dusty form is visible yet only a sliver of the reflective radiance of illumination is revealed.
Obscured and in darkness
2Corinthians 3:18 “And we who with unveiled faces all Reflect The LORD’S Glory are being transformed into His likeness with ever increasing Glory, which comes from The LORD, who is The Spirit. NIV
With “unveiled” faces, our whole being turned towards the The Source of Glory, the Brightness that is brighter than the sun, (Rev 1: 16, Mt.17:2, ). It is described that when Moses went in to “talk” face to face with YHWH (The Covenant NAME of God), his face shown so brilliantly (known as the shekinah glory or “reflected glory) that the ancient Israelites required him to cover up his face. Because he was in Presence of YHWH it had an outward manifestation, that causes the dust not only to reflect His radiance, but also causes darkness (the flesh) to hide from it.
Man – Adam – Vav
- Vav = Numeric value = 6 This is the number of “man” in the Hebrew alpha-bet; Nail or peg ─ a connector – to join (fasten) together.
- Vav is a connecting letter. At the beginning of a word it usually means “and.” The first Vav is in Gen 1:1. It is the 1st letter of the 6th word, and connects “heaven and earth”. Man (DUST) was created to not only reflect the nature and character of God, but also to be the link between heaven and earth.
- It also refers to Christ Jesus ─ the “Son of Man“. (Bene-ha-Adam) The second Adam.
- Jesus came to restore that which connects heaven and earth, that is the spiritual and the material- He connects the unseen world with what we see around us, the temporary to eternal
The COST to redeem The DUST of the earth – mankind or the Adamic race, back to his rightful place “to be the connecting piece between Heaven and Earth”- God’s Reflection upon it – His Image, His Glory, TRUTH and RIGHTEOUSENESS!
It is for such a time as this we MUST become more vulnerable, fully unveiling ourselves to be exposed in the full Light of His eternal glorious TRUTH!
